Spray Butter....

We have heard this before from Kate, but this was the best example of this confusion.

Kate got out of school today and had a painting in her folder. She asked Jennifer is she liked it. Jennifer told her "yes". Kate asked, "Put it on the spray butter?"

The spray butter is the refrigerator and that is where Justin's work goes for display.

Somewhere along the way, she thought when we said "can you get the spray butter" we were refering to the fridge and not the actual product...spray butter.

Summer Athletics

I was reading an old post and realized I refered to Justin starting tee ball. So, here's his summer athletic update.

Justin finished his first year of tee ball and got a lot better as the season sent on. At first, he was pretty scared and unsure. In his first inning in the field, while playing pitcher, he fielded a ball and forced a guy out at home plate. He had no idea what he did until the crowd cheered. He had a bunch of really good hits and had a good time. We do need to work on his foot speed. Yikes! As Papa Roy told me when I mentioned I "never" made an out at first base from a lack of effort, "You never played when you were five." That put everything in the proper perspective!

Justin's real discovery this summer was swimming. He and Kate went to lessons during the last week of the school year with Coach Bill. Both kids did really well. Justin was asked to participate in "swim team". Each morning, Jennifer would take the two kids to the Kehoe-France pool for Justin's practice. I got to see him one time and he was able to work his way completely across the pool. This has some potential, as Kehoe-france has a team and a HEATED pool.

Kate's 2nd Day of School

Yes, we remembered to take pictures for her first day (Tuesday), but these are better. Kate is in the PP2 class at Kehoe-France. So, on Tuesday and Thursday she leaves with Mom and Justin to go to school. She did cry both days when the legendary "Mommy" left the room...but that is part of the deal.

Let's get back to the point. The PP2 and PP3 kids do not have to wear uniforms. Therefore, Jennifer interprets this as a fashion show. Justin wore some cute clothes, but through the first week, Kate has matched all the way to her underwear. Literally.

Tuesday was red based. Today....white an pink.

Triple Pony Tail / Jeri Curl

Before a recent haircut, Kate had enough hair for three pony tails!

Then, Kate went to an urban store and was inspired to wear her hair differently. Take a look! Remember when Michael Jackson's hair caught fire in the mid-80s? This is what it looked like pre-inferno.

Kate with glasses?

Earlier in the summer, Jennifer and I took Kate to the eye doctor to look at a condition she has. The doctor told us she may need glasses and that determination would be made closer to the end of the year. In order to try to get Kate comfortable with the possibility, we have tried to get her wear and talk about wearing glasses. Here's a preview of what can be expected.

First Day of Kindergarten!

Earlier today, Jennifer and I brought Justin to his first day of Kindergarten. Here are some pictures from the morning. Justin did a great job this morning getting ready for school, remembering to carry all of his bags to class and waiting patiently in the cafeteria with everyone before the lined up to go to their classroom.

Justin visits the Superdome...again!

Last year, Justin and Kate were lucky enough to run on the field at the Superdome just days before it reopened. Thsi year was no different. As the workers were putting their final touches on the new turf, Justin and I toured the building with my cousin, Sparky. Our company Broadmoor was the Construction Manager for both Phases I and II. Uncle Steve was out there, too. He was responsible for the completion of the newly remodeled suites.

Interestingly enough, Justin was much more into the visit than he was a year ago. If you remember, he actually went to a real game last December. I guess it was at that point that he realized that lare green field is for more than him and his sister to run on.

I think that is one of those pictures that captures the kid. You will be able to look at that picture in 15 years and remember him at that age very well.

A girl finding a way to get something from a boy.

This is a true story. No, not a Jennifer story with 10% exaggeration for dramatic effect, either. Picture this....Saturday morning, I am laying on the sofa and Kate walks up to me. "Daddy, I need money." I responded with, "What do you need money for?" She repeated herself and I told her, "Not today."

She then coralled her mother and told her to "mere" (Come here.) and led Jennifer to her room. She asked Jennifer to open her closet and Kate pointed to her Black Saints cheerleader outfit. "Mommy bwack shirt on Kate. Help me." So, Jennifer dresses her.

She then comes back in the den, where I an still laying, and says, "Daddy, wike (like) Kate's Saints shirt?" I said, "Yes, baby. I love your Saints shirt." Kate responds with, "Daddy, Kate needs money."

Yes, this little stinker thought wearing Saints clothes would encourage me to give her money I otherwise would not have.

Is it possible she learned this behavior from her mother?

Back to blogging...

After a four month hiatus, Justin and Kate are back. Here are a few pictures from the end of the spring and the summer.
