Justin's Hair

Justin has become very independent when it comes to bathing, dressing and brushing his hair and teeth befre bed. Evidently he had too much time on his hands last night. He decided to experiment with a variation off of his normal conservative hair style. As you can see he went for a wave with a bit of a spike. When I asked him how many sprays of hair spray he had, he responded with "10". It was nice to touch!

A bit of advice....

Our nephew, Casey, plays on the varisty football team at St. Paul's in Covington. Friday night was both a home game and the first time the Wolves were to play on their new "field turf". So, Jennifer and I decided to bring both Justin and Kate to the game to watch. Justin's not really into football, but Kate likes the band and dance team.

Anyway, we had a tough combination in play. For starters, it was quite warm. Look at the picture of Kate. Think she was hot? Next, they were both tired having both gotten up at 6:00 am to bring Justin to school. Last, after sitting there for a half....they were bored.

Long story short, in order to distract them a bit, we took the kids by the on-campus pond and the bridge that crosses it during halftime and Kate fell in! It was scary and could have been far worse. Aunt Jodi jumped in the slop to get Kate out.

Next time: 1) Wait for cooler weather, 2) Take naps during the day, 3) Bring toys.

Bad Hair Day?

Big Girl Kate

I have to give Jennifer a tremendous amount of credit on this one. She combined the fact that Kate asked for a new bed with the momentum of her having to stay still on a mat for naptime at school and rolled them into a new big girl bed. In a whirlwind on Sunday, we bought the frame, mattress and boxspring from the legendary White Elephant store in Mandeville. A quick stop at Lakeside on the way to the Aquarium provided Jen with all of the parts and pieces she didn't already have. We even stumbled across this plug-in chandelier for over her bed. (I had to install the hooks and was a little nervous about it falling.)

Anyway, I was a lot skeptical. But through two nights, Kate has done exceptionally well...better than Justin did in his transition. The true test comes tonight when Mommy goes to opera practice and Daddy has to read books and tickle her back.

Aquarium and IMAX

Since Justin and Kate had a very good first week of school (all things considered, minimal crying and general conformance with 6:00 am wakeup times) Jennifer and I took them to the Aquarium and the IMAX where they saw Ocean Wonderland.

It was a very good trip to the Aquarium where they have made some strategic adjustments since Katrina. I think the place needed some new things since it originally opened in 1990.

Friday with Daddy

I was off of work on Friday to help create a four-day weekend. Kate went off and ran some errands with me while Justin was at school and Jennifer went to the doctor. Here's Kate outside of the Blue Harbor Car Wash in Madeville while we waited for my truck. Kate got to pick out a snack inside and she selected a blue icee and gum. The gum is "summermint"...that would be spearmint with a hint of watermelon. In case you are wondering, yes we know a 2 year old shouldn't chew gum. But, that is a lot better than a one year old chewing gum....as Kate did....without swallowing the gum.
