Kate - Year One in Review (Part Two)

Here are some pictures from Day #2 of Kate's life. The first picture is with Mommy. The second adds Daddy and Justin. At this point, we are all still in shock over a few key things: 1) This baby is a girl. Of the seven Sciortino grandchildren, this is the first girl. 2) The size of this baby. It is hard to imagine a newborn this solid. 3) Jennifer is pretty functional. After Justin, she had some mobility and recovery issues. After Kate she bounced back fairly well.

In the hospital while feeding her, Jennifer noticed her gag reflex kicking in. Without getting to graphic, she spit up a good bit and also had instances where she seemed to be trying to throwup and nothing came out. We asked and they told us, "babies spit up." Okay.

When we got home with her, we noticed her coloring was off....jaundice. That required a house visit from the pediatrician, a blood test at the hospital to confirm the level (and see if we needed to go to the hospital) and some days in front of the glass door for sun ray exposure. When the doctor came back to check her color and was feeding her a bottle, Kate did the "try to throw up" thing again and she was instantly diagnosed with reflux.

So, the formula changing / up all night / let's try this medicine event began.

Oh, I forgot a great detail...somehow, we found a way on that first weekend to have her bedroom painted pink. That was essential...an it looked really good. Until Katrina came to visit.
